Star Wars: Disney Announces New 'Star Wars' Trilogy
The 'Star Wars' trilogy is one of the best series of all time. The series that is created by George Lucas followed the life of the Skywalkers or the Skywalker family and their journey throughout a Galaxy Far Far Away.
The series is now in its seventh film and it follows still the Skywalker family with a few new characters. Well, a new update has been revealed and the update just may end the times of the Skywalker family or the trilogy may be moving toward these certain new characters. The Walt Disney Co. announced Thursday (11/10/2017) that Rian Johnson is set to craft a new trilogy for the "Star Wars" universe, greatly expanding the director's command over the growing space-opera, mystical saga that was created by George Lucas.
The big announement was made by Disney's Chief Bob Iger who  constituted the most ambitious new foray into the "Star Wars" galaxy, moving well beyond the original nine-film framework imagined by Lucas. Disney also announced a live-action "Star Wars" series that will debut on its streaming service which is set to launch in 2019. It was also revealed that the saga that currently follows the Skywalker family will be a seperate one from the Skywalker family. "Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored."
Johnson will preside over a new "Star Wars" trilogy altogether confirms his status as the franchise's new chief guardian. Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy stated this "He's a creative force, and watching him craft 'The Last Jedi' from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career." "Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy." Johnson will be set to write and direct the first film in the seperate trilogy and will work with his producing partner Ram Bergman.
"We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on 'The Last Jedi,' " Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. "'Star Wars' is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can't wait to continue with this new series of films."
Disney is making extremely large moves with their properties. They were in talks with 21st Century Fox to buy the film companies movie portion and not its news. They've also revealed that they will not stream any new Marvel shows on Netflix and is gearing up to create their own streaming platform.
Still, with the Star Wars Universe, Disney can follow many different revenues or pathways and characters for a new trilogy. They could re-canon the "Old Republic" saga or they can allow the story to follow new characters like Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo.
