Chris Evans is putting up his shield as Captain America.

The actor who has played Captain America aka Steve Rogers for at least 8 years since 'Captain America: The First Avengers', has announced that he is finally through playing the character.

The bittersweet announcement came via Evans official twitter page where he also stated that the Avengers 4 film is actually completed or incompletion.

Evans tweeted “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4,” he tweeted. “It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

Evans has been teasing about leaving for a while now and spoke about departing even with the NYT, which he told the company "You want to get off the train before they push you off."

Evans leaving, of course, was not a surprise but how his character will leave is. Many fans speculate that Steve will die and pass the mantle onto someone else like the Falcon or Winter Soldier, both whom played or took up the mantle in the comic books.

I guess we will have to see when 'Avengers 4' hit theaters May 3, 2019.
