GI Joe 3: Film Delayed Because of Dwayne Johnson ScheduleSeptember 14, 2016
It seems that the long awaited GI Joe 3 film will be waited for even longer. The latest update we have for you is that the upcoming film has been delayed even further due to the busy schedule of actor Dwayne Johnson.
G.I. Joe franchise's very own star Byung-hun Lee (who plays Storm Shadow) was attending the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of The Magnificent Seven and LRM sat down with Lee sat down with the actor for an interview where the discussion turned to the status of G.I. Joe 3. Here’s what the actor had to say:
“I heard from the studio that there’s a possibility to do the third one, but I think they’re waiting for the actors’ schedules. They’re arranging the schedules for the actors, especially Dwayne Johnson.”
Johnson himself is currently shooting Jumanji and also the video game adaptation titled Rampage which is in pre-production. Johnson is also scheduled to star in the pulp fiction adaption Doc Savage with Shane Black, and sequels to both San Andreas and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Johnson is also set to play DC comics villain Black Adam in the film Shazam.
Even though some of these projects don't have set release dates yet, they may not be that big of an issue but Johnson still has a tremendous amount of films set to be released like Moana, Baywatch, Fast 8 and 16 other projects planned including the remake of Big Trouble in Little China and an adaptation of the Disney theme park ride Jungle Cruise.
Still, there is no doubt that G.I. Joe is a priority for Paramount Pictures, and the toy franchise is supposed to end up being tied into the developing Hasbro cinematic universe that will include M.A.S.K, Micronauts, Visionaries, and ROM. There is still a dice role on how quickly this will happen.
