Spawn is without any doubt one of the greatest anti-heroes in the comic book and arguably the most powerful and brutal. The first film for the hellish/demonic being first came about back in the 90s. The film received mixed reviews and many fans thought there would be a sequel to the film series. However, this was revealed to not be happening and a reboot would be made instead.

Creator of the series, Todd McFarlane, teased for years that a new Spawn film was coming. However, the updates were kind of scratchy and never fully happened. This is until last year when McFarlane revealed that he was finished with the script and the film was now officially happening. Today Todd Mcfarlane has given an update and the update is nevertheless pleasing to the ears. McFarlane, speaking with the crowd at Emerald City Comic Con, talked about his Spawn project.

“If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here,” McFarlane stated. He then used his hands to show just how far he plans to take it.

It seems like the box-office success of other R-Rated superhero films is allowing ‘Spawn‘ to gain some steam. Todd McFarlane doesn’t seem to want to compromise his vision of how the project should go and I applaud that.

McFarlane earlier said that he’s looking to make the titular character a real boogeyman.

In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost.”

This project seems positively amazing or at least what McFarlane has revealed so far. I'm pretty sure that these updates are not just to make fans unbelievably excited but actually warn many fans just how gruesome the character will be. I mean in the comics, Spawn and the world around him was unbelievably grotesque. His fellow demons, angels and even the humans and the way they are slaughtered in the series shows just how things are supposed to be.
