Petition to Have Meryl Streep Play Leia Gains Momentum.

April 2, 2018

Disney has planned several more films and even a decade of the Star Wars series for years to come. Even after the loss of the late great Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia in the original film Disney/LucasFilm had decided to still continue one way or another. Still, the last time Fisher appeared as Leia in the series was during the most recent 'The Last Jedi.'

Many are stomped on what is the next move for the lovely character after she wasn't killed off in the movie? We'll some stated it would be nice to CGI the actress inside the upcoming films and other said to just give her a great passing. Other fans revealed that to give Leia a great sendoff would be good. The Last Jedi novel was stated to reveal that Leia would die eventually from being sick after she was (SPOILER) blown out into space but subsequently survived due to her skills and natural connection to the force.

Now, it was revealed that a petition to get Meryl Streep to play Princess Leia in the upcoming film is gaining momentum and even being approved by many fans. It’s reported that an online petition wants the great actor Oscar-winning actress to play Leia in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode IX." Metro reports that as of late Sunday afternoon, the petition had well over 8,400 supporters out of the target goal of 9K.

The petition notes remarks that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill made in October 2017 about plans for Leia to be “more prominent” in the ninth “episode” of the movie franchise.

“As the fans of STAR WARS and Carrie Fisher, we really want Leia to shine in Episode IX and we certainly do not want her to be written out of the film abruptly without a reasonable plot,” it explains. “Therefore, recasting Leia is a more ideal option for us and we believe that Meryl Streep is an ideal candidate to play Leia.”

The petition referenced Streep’s starring role in the 1990 big-screen version of Fisher’s 1987 novel, “Postcards from the Edge,” as well as the friendship the two women shared.

The petition had ended with a modified version of the iconic saying, "May the force be with you" with "May the force be with Carrie Fisher, Meryl Streep and Princess Leia."

There is no yet confirmation from either Streep's camp nor Disney or Lucasfilm.
